Understanding Neuroplastic Symptoms

UNDERSTANDING NEUROPLASTIC PAIN AND SYMPTOMS

From a young age, we've been taught that bodily discomfort is always linked to a structural or medical issue that requires physical remedies. However, according to current neuroscience, the reality is quite different. Research indicates that pain and many non-pain symptoms are frequently not caused by physical structures, but rather by established neural pathways in the brain. This phenomenon is referred to as Neuroplastic pain and symptoms.

For example, The New England Journal Of Medicine on Structural Abnormalities in the Back, found that 64% of people with NO back pain have disc bulges, protrusions, herniations, or disc degeneration. This study demonstrates that structural changes are NORMAL and usually UNRELATED to pain.

"Pain is like a conversation between your body and your brain. But as in any conversation, sometimes there are misunderstandings."

Alan Gordon, LCSW, The Way Out

Pain and other physical discomforts such as dizziness, fatigue, and tinnitus act as safeguards in our brain and nervous system. They serve as vital warning signals for potential threats to our body, and urge us to change our behavior to avoid further injury. You can think of pain like a fire alarm going off in your home when it senses smoke.

The brain, however, can become over-protective and misinterpret signals, activating pain and other non-pain symptoms in the absence of structural causes, or persisting long after an injury has healed. The fire alarm, previously triggered only by smoke, has become overly sensitive and now goes off whenever you cook anything in the kitchen.

This misunderstanding between your body and your brain leads to the manifestation of neuroplastic symptoms, also referred to as Tension Myositis Syndrome (TMS) or Mind-Body Syndrome (MBS).

To reduce or eliminate symptoms, we need to help our brain and nervous system reintrepret signals from our body correctly. We achieve this with the help of techniques such as Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT). PRT is at the core of what we do within the Rewired For Wellness program.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE COURSE

"Knowing she was there to support me was absolutely helpful in my recovery."

"I can not speak highly enough of Julie and all she did to help me overcome my chronic pain and anxiety symptoms. I can now say that most days I am 100% recovered from my chronic pain symptoms. When I have a stressful time period or I'm not taking time to take care of me, the symptoms will try to creep back in, but Julie has given me the tools to conquer those feelings and they pass just as quickly as they arrived. Her course was absolutely worth the investment, because it's changed the way I think about my body and what it's trying to tell me. Her course helped me realize that I have the ability to take back my life and that chronic pain only has the control I give it. I would 100% recommend Julie's course to anyone who is tired of being in pain and is willing to put in the work to change their life. It absolutely changed mine and I'm forever grateful to Julie!"
